The 2003 Annual Convention and Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Architectural Society of China was held at Beijing International Convention Center from October 22 to October 24, 2003.

  Mr. Wang Guangtao, Minister of Construction, and Mr. Song Nanping, Party Secretary of the Executive Secretariat of China Association for Science and Technology, attended the Convention and presented speeches Mr. Song Chunhua, President of ASC, gave a report at the Convention in which he reviewed the glorious history of ASC and the great contribution made by the Institute to the construction of the country in the last 50 years. He also expressed his acknowledgement and respect to the people working in the construction field throughout the nation. “The 2nd Liang Sicheng Prize of Construction” and “The Honorary Working Staff of ASC” were awarded at the Convention of Celebration.

  The directors of concerned departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Construction, the representatives of fraternal associations and the local chapters of provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions attended the Convention. 500 delegates were present at the Convention of Celebration. A number of the distinguished guests attended the event were Mr. Alfonso Campo Soto (Colombian Ambassador to China), Mr. Rod Hackney (Former President of UIA), Mr. Barry Will (President of ARCASIA), Mr. Hiroshi Akiyama (President of Japan Institute of Architects), Mr. Jin Kyoon Kim (President of Architectural Institute of Korea), Mr. John Wong Polung (President of The Hong Kong Institute of Architects), Mr. Wu Xiaxiong (President of International Chinese Architecture Association) and Ms. Geraldine Kunstadter (Chairman of Albert Kunstadter Family Foundation).

  A number of distinguished speakers including Wu Liangyong, Zhang Qinnan, He Jingtang, Ma Guoxin, Peng Yigang, Norman Foster, Ricardo Bofill, Oliver R. Sommerhalder, Chen Shimin, Lu Jiwei, He Hongxing, Zou Jingyu, He Weizeng, Li Minquan, Li Dexiang, Liu Bin, Cui Kai, Zhu Xiaodi, Liu Xu, Zhou Kai, Yang Ming delivered unique presentations at the Annual Convention under the theme of “Environment-City-Housing”.
